  • 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 14 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage: Boil water in a large pot. Remove the core from the cabbage and submerge it in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until leaves soften. Cool.
  2. Make the filling: Combine ground beef, cooked rice, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and any additional seasonings in a large bowl.
  3. Assemble the rolls: Take one cabbage leaf, place about 2 tablespoons of filling at the base, roll tightly while tucking in sides. Repeat until filling is used.
  4. Prepare the sauce: Mix crushed tomatoes with tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Spread half in a baking dish.
  5. Arrange rolls: Place rolls seam-side down in the dish and pour remaining sauce over them.
  6. Bake: Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 60 minutes. Uncover during the last 10 minutes to brown.
