Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets puff pastry (thawed)
  • 2 cups fresh mushrooms (sliced, preferably cremini or button)
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese (shredded)
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil. Sauté chopped onions until translucent (3-4 minutes). Add sliced mushrooms and garlic; cook until soft and liquid evaporates (5-7 minutes). Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Roll out one puff pastry sheet on a floured surface and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Spread the mushroom mixture evenly over the center of the pastry, then sprinkle shredded Gruyère cheese on top.
  5. Cut strips along both sides of the second puff pastry sheet, leaving enough space in the middle for filling. Fold strips over each other in a braided style.
  6. Brush with egg wash (mix egg with water) and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
