Ingredients
Scale
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
1 cup whole milk (warm)
3 large eggs (room temperature)
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
In a bowl, combine warm milk and sugar; sprinkle yeast over the top. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
In another bowl, whisk eggs and melted butter together. Add to the yeast mixture once ready.
In a large bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add wet ingredients, stirring to form a sticky dough.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let rise in a warm area until doubled (about 1 hour).
After rising, punch down the dough and fold in chocolate chips. Shape into a loaf or braid and place in a greased baking pan. Let rise again until doubled (another hour).
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before slicing.
