  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain rice
  • 4 cups chopped green cabbage (about 1 medium head)
  • 1 (15 oz) can low-sodium tomato sauce
  • 1 medium sweet onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a large baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté diced onions until translucent (about 5 minutes). Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart until browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. In a bowl, combine the beef mixture with uncooked rice, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  5. Layer half of the cabbage in the baking dish followed by half of the meat mixture. Add another layer of cabbage and top with the remaining meat mixture.
  6. Cover tightly with foil and bake for about 60 minutes until cooked through.
