  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup currants or raisins
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and eggs. Gradually mix in flour until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl and let rise for one hour.
  4. Punch down the dough and fold in dried fruit. Divide into 12 pieces and shape into buns; place on a lined baking sheet.
  5. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 375°F.
  6. Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before drizzling with glaze made from whisking powdered sugar and milk.
